Make a Difference

March/April 2008

MP Monthly - - March/April 2008

With April 22nd around the corner it is time to prepare to make a difference this Earth Day. I want to challenge everyone to get involved in their community....meet other people...discuss things....listen....learn....and even teach what you know. Pass it around so to speak and create a buzz.

Speaking of buzzing, MavoPavo will be attending the Frito-Lay Eco Fair (read more on their site), hosted for employees only on April 18th and we will have booths at the EarthFest2008 on April 18th in Downtown Dallas at Pegasus Plaza and at the Oak Cliff Earth Day 2008 on April 20th , so stop buy if you are in the area.

Also, we are proud to be the featured business on GenGreen (www.gengreen.org) for the Dallas area and the featured organization is Texas Campaign for the Environment. Join up it's a great community for Eco people. So everyone get outside and do something fantastic.

Have a beautiful Earth Day. Enjoy.

Regards,

MavoPavo

Earth Day is April 22

This day is a perfect day to connect with people and learn more about what we can do in our lives to make changes that will make an impact. Enjoy.

EARTH DAY IS EVERYDAY - No matter what, rain or shine we celebrate the Earth and hold April 22nd as a special day, a party day, an action day on behalf of our friend the big blue planet. We love this day. It’s the day to say ‘We Love You Earth. Happy 4 billionth Birthday.’

We all by now know of the phrase EARTH DAY EVERY DAY. But what does it mean? Does it take anything away from Earth Day itself? Does it mean that we celebrate the earth every day, the way we do on April 22nd, by holding special events, festivals, concerts, tree plantings etc.? Earth Day Every Day is the same yet different from Earth Day April 22nd. We still celebrate the earth, but in smaller day to day ways, caring for it in our daily actions. After all, we can't organise a concert every day can we?

Practicing Earth Day Every Day is the easiest thing in the world, once you begin to recognize how you do it. Over the course of the next few months, from now until April 22nd, I aim to show at least one hundred actions I have taken during this period to help make this world a better place. By doing this I hope to show the countless little things that we can do, and often do without even realizing it, to keep our beautiful planet in a state that will support life for a long time to come.

The tiny little things we do in our lives, like refusing a plastic bag in a grocery store for example, are day to day environmental success stories that can fill us with energy and a sense of well being. Doing those simple little daily things that make the earth a better place for all is living EARTH DAY EVERY DAY. It is when we each begin to live our environmental lives to the full that we will begin to change the state of this planet for the good.

What am I going to do on Earth Day? At this moment I don't know. Perhaps I'll go to an event that someone else has organized, show my support for a movement, plant a tree or just simply lie on the ground and say 'Thank You Earth and thank you for all those wonderful folks around the world who are making this day so special.'

This message is my first little action in my personal Earth Day Is Every Day campaign. Lets see what happens next. -- posted by Paul Coleman

Earth Day is the day designated for fostering appreciation of the earth's environment and awareness of the issues that threaten it. Actually, Earth Day is one of two days, depending on when you choose to observe it. Some people celebrate Earth Day on the first day of Spring, which is the vernal equinox that occurs on or around March 21st. In 1970, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a bill designating April 22 as a national day to celebrate the earth. Since that time, Earth Day has been officially observed in April. At present, Earth Day is observed in 175 countries, and coordinated by the nonprofit Earth Day Network. The passage of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act are considered to be products associated with the 1970 Earth Day. -- posted by From Anne Marie Helmenstine, Ph.D.

Get Dirty to Plant Something Good....

Eating food right out of a garden , especially your garden, will make you feel great and one with the earth. We would suggest starting at your local nursery and bookstore then maybe sign-up on a gardening blog to get some tips to help you along the way. Enjoy.

One is Greater than None

Our charitable contribution for March is a non-profit organization created by eight 14-year old girls. Their goal is to inspire individuals to believe that any contribution, no matter how small, has value. Even with limited resources each person can find a way to Be Part of the Equation. MavoPavo thinks these girls are wonderful and they definitely show how determination and passion can create reality from a single idea.

10% of March sales will be donated to One is Greater than None.

The story began like this: The girls were determined to save some of these children. One of the girls asked, "What if we only raise enough money to save one child?" The response was "Well, one is better than none." And that is how "One is Greater than None" began. The girls decided to make bracelets and package them on cards that would educate people about what was going on in the fishing villages of Ghana. They designed a necklace with eight wooden beads, representing each girl, which surrounds a recycled glass bead made in Ghana. Tee shirts were made with their logo, (1>0), and their tag line "Be Part of the Equation.

The girls wanted to raise money, but they were equally determined to raise social awareness. Do anything. Do something. It is such a simple premise, but how easily the world could change if everyone embraced that philosophy. On June 8th, the final bracelet cards were packaged. On June 16th the girls officially raised enough money to save their first child! So many great things have come from what the girls have started. 100% of the proceeds raised by (1>0) goes to The International Organization for Migration, who provide humanitarian assistance to refugees and internally displaced people.
